Got that pesky gig out of the way this morning. (Beethoven Cavatina from Op.130, and bits of Schubert and Haydn, as part of a memorial service.). A typical Suffolk church in December, wherein pew heating keeps congregants warm, but not those (us) doing the work. And there was a lot of sitting around waiting for the next time to play: cold hands and cold feet. (Even though it was a balmy 13° outside, that’s not a temperature for performing in.) It was all ‘pitch perfect’ said the client, but more ‘I think we got away with it’ on my side.

Very grumpy now. Had a rehearsal that was moved (by the violinists) to a venue that was twice as far away, and not comfortable, and they (the two violinists) had unilaterally decided not to use the supplied edition of the music (= different bowings and articulations and no bar numbers, making rehearsing more difficult). And they also seemed not to be very familiar with one of the pieces. Where they did have musical views, they were almost diametrically opposed to mine.

I had been looking forward to this. Sigh.
