Shinji Maruyama ist ein seltener Gitarrist, der in Japan nicht sehr bekannt ist, aber mit einer ernsten Einstellung an die Gitarre herangeht. Er ging 1968 nach Deutschland und kehrte 1979, etwa 11 Jahre später, nach Japan zurück. Während seiner Zeit in Deutschland war er Professor für Gitarre am Konservatorium Koblenz. Diese Aufführung wurde auf einer 10-saitigen Gitarre von Kanokitama aufgeführt, die einen Halbton tiefer gestimmt war, wie es in der Barockmusik üblich ist.“

While on my way to rehearsal today, had the joy of hearing (most of) Sibelius 2nd on the radio.
Obviously suboptimal conditions, what with the road noise and er, focusing on driving a bit, but still.
When we reached the coda of the last movement, where that G arrives as the new fourth note of the motif, a thing that I *knew* was coming, a kind of exultant noise came out of me. Absolutely glorious.

Lucky no one else was in the car.

It is a tour de force of composition, the way that note changes everything. And Sibelius gives us several decent climaxes before that point, that would be enough on their own, but he has this ace up his sleeve.
