I think this is a bug in the #Python argparse library. The following program, run with `./program --example 1`, fails with the error `program: error: ambiguous option: --example could match --example-a, --example-b`

I think it should complete successfully, printing `Namespace(example_a="1")`.

Worth filing a report? A fix?

People in the #Python ecosystem, has there ever been a developer survey that gathered data about the *usage* of static analysis tools in the Python community? Frustratingly the JetBrains developer survey didn't seem to contain this question.

I know "AI" is a polarizing topic around here, but I wanted to share a small side-project I've been tinkering with to scratch a personal itch: MastoSum.

It’s a lightweight web app that listens to public streams, filters for the hashtags I actually care about, and uses an LLM to generate a daily digest of the last 24 hours. Basically, a personalized news feed to help cut through the noise.

It's IPv6-only. Not reachable via IPv4.

So the *real* story of this release is not so much any big code changes, but rather updated dependency testing as well as *comprehensive documentation* for the SQLAlchemy feature. OK @glyph challenge accepted. Here is python programming talk.

I have a script that uses "with Popen(...,stdout=PIPE)" to run a program and roughly run grep. Now I'd like to add a timeout, but I don't want to buffer the output (because it is unbounded), so run is out. Currently I am running /usr/bin/timeout from python, but this is, uh, unpythonic.
