今日はヨゼフ・シュトラウスの命日。1870年、楽旅に出張したワルシャワで脳卒中と見られる発作を起こし、ウィーンに辛うじて帰宅したものの、自宅で息を引き取る。享年42。

今だったらやっぱり「過労死」と表現するのが適切か。元々体力的には弱かったが、作曲と演奏活動にかなり無理をしていたらしい。

現在の墓はウィーン中央墓地の父ヨハンの墓の向かいに位置している。
