Pictures at an Exhibition performed live by Emerson, Lake & Palmer was the album that brought me back to classical music at about age 15.

Written for the , it was famously orchestrated by . I've heard it performed once and have several versions on mp3. Perennial favorite! 👍

At the top level it is Mussorgsky's emotional journey as he walks around an exhibition of artwork by his recently deceased friend Viktor Hartmann. But there are captions for most/all of the works, so it is also a recursive tale with stories within stories. 🙂

Some of the original art is lost, so the musical renditions are all we have left. 🙁

The rip-roaring romp that is the last movement of Raff's Op. 195 piano concerto brings a smile to my lips every time; here played by Michael Ponti and the Hamburg Symphony conducted by Richard Kapp:

I have been enjoying the contemplative slow movement (on repeat) from Charles Villiers Standford's 2nd piano concerto, played here by Margaret Fingerhut with the Ulster Symphony conducted by Vernon Handley:

Why are Korg grand piano sounds +5ct at 440Hz (~441–441.5)? I know about spread, but wouldn’t you prefer 440Hz to be exact? C4 is +1ct, so maybe they just center the tuning along that.

But it’s nice to verify that a good default for spread is something like +5ct for C4 and +7–10ct for C5, with a larger increase for the very upper and lower octaves.
