Text screenshot. I have highlighted the bit that says piano duo is in fact music for pianists that have four hands. Now, I have recorded my arrangements of Prison from Einstein on the Beach and Protest from Satyagraha for two pianos. I played both piano parts myself. Music for piano duo is in fact music for a pianist who has four hands. As a rule, such compositions are performed by two different people, and the performers are two different personalities, two different worlds. I had performed these two pieces many times in the usual way, that is, as a duet. That was an interesting experience but for this recording I have chosen to go for integrity. 今日はもう一人。ムスティスラフ・ロストロポーヴィチの命日。2007年没、享年80。

私が一番最初にロストロポーヴィチの演奏を聴いたのは中学生の時で、カラヤン／ベルリンフィルのバックにリヒテル／オイストラフと共演したベートーヴェンのトリプル・コンチェルトの録音だった。今でもこの曲のスタンダードの演奏になっているくらいで、さしものカラヤンもこの３人揃い踏みにちょっと押されている感じが個人的にはする。その３人の中では一番若かった。

今日はオリヴィエ・メシアンの命日。1992年没、享年83。

パリ・バスティーユ管弦楽団の委嘱で最後に書いていた“Concert à quatre”は結局完成できず、妻のイヴォンヌ・ロリオがジョージ・ベンジャミンとハインツ・ホリガーの助力を得て補筆完成された。初演のタクトを採ったのはチョン・ミョンフン。

今日はアレクサンドル・スクリャービンの命日。1915年、モスクワにて没、享年43。虫刺されが元で敗血症に至ったのが死因とされている。
