Music in general hasn't been evolving very music for the last 30 (40?) years or so, except little pockets here and there barely making a dent despite still finding a fanbase. If anything, the larger music scene has been backtracking (4 social ill). The most progress I think I have seen has been in #IndieFolk and #WomenComposers - #ClassicalMusic and, well, I just can't think of anything else right now. There is more #HomeRecording, so I guess that counts. But the aesthetic is not always there.

Four Elements -- A Symphony in Fire, Water, Earth & Air: I. Fire --Andrea Tarrodi -- Nordic Chamber Orchestra
https://youtu.be/V3l7WQuZL2w?si=UgQx5uMfsif1W4JN
After hearing this first movement on the radio, I had to go and find the whole work from this Swedish composer.
It's wonderful! Tarrodi exploits all the possibilities that an orchestra can offer. Given her Nordic origins, one might all too easily link her with Sibelius, but I'm not sure that's right. Her music is of our time but totally accessible; perhaps listeners who enjoy Holst's orchestral suite "The Planets" will find this work much to their liking too.
I heard this piece on "Feminine Fusion", which puts a spotlight on women in classical music in both the past and the present. The program originates with...

I go out of my way to collect public domain music, and I find it both interesting and frustrating that Archibald Joyce manages to fall into the exact umbra between US public domain law and EU public domain law. He was at the height of his popularity in the 1910s (and his music is closely associated with the Titanic, as it was included in their on-board songbooks), which is many years before the US rolling year-cutoff currently in the 1930s; but he lived to quite an old age, so a man who was popular 115 years ago isn't public domain under EU death-plus-seventy-years!
