今日はレオシュ・ヤナーチェクの命日。1928年、オストラヴァにて没。享年74。死因は肺炎。その直前に故郷のフクヴァルディに出掛けているが、そこで罹患したものと見られている。

最後に完成したオペラ「死者の家から」は推敲中だった。未完のヴァイオリン協奏曲が引用されたこの作品の初演は1930年ブルノ国民劇場で行われている。

ビロード革命の後、ハヴェル大統領の強い要請でチェコに帰国し、「わが祖国」などを指揮したが、その頃には既に持病の影響で指揮者としては引退状態だった。その後チェコ・フィルと来日も果たしているが、程なく再び隠棲していた様だ。
