今日はリヒャルト・シュトラウスの誕生日。1864年、ミュンヘンの生まれ。

生家は第２次大戦の際に破壊され、跡地には別の建物が建っていた。ここに生家であることを示すプレートも掲げられていたのだが、http://www.nakash.jp/opera/2006munchen/16univer.htm この建物も取り壊されて更に新しい建物に変わっている。問題はこの新しい建物の生家を示す表示が、何でこんな場所を思いついたという様な場所に変わったこと。https://maps.app.goo.gl/U7wquuDVE5V34ugQ6 リヒャルト・シュトラウスファンはここを訪れる際に、見落とさない様に気をつけないといけない。

父親はミュンヘンの宮廷楽団のホルン奏者。その影響もあり、２曲のホルン協奏曲をはじめホルンをフィーチャーした作品が多いほか、管弦楽曲でもホルンが活躍する作品が多い。なお、父親の音楽観が大変保守的なものであったため、リヒャルトも当初はその影響を強く受けた交響曲などを書いていた。

今日はエルネスト・ショーソンの命日。1899年、フランス・イヴリーヌのリメーという村 https://maps.app.goo.gl/3h8L7JWLw6xaiAEq6 の別荘で、自転車に乗って坂を下っていた時に煉瓦壁に激突、頭蓋骨を骨折したことが致命傷となった。享年44。

ヴァイオリンと管弦楽のための「詩曲」や交響曲は時折演奏機会があるが、一般的には知名度のある作曲家とは言えないか。亡くなった時には弦楽四重奏曲を作曲中で、最終楽章が未完に終わり、友人のひとりだったダンディが補筆完成させている。

シベリウスが書いた劇音楽の中で、一番「謎めいている」のがこの「クオレマ」。

「ペレアスとメリザンド」「クリスチャン２世」「白鳥姫」などは劇音楽がそのまま演奏会用の組曲としてセットで扱われているのに、「クオレマ」の場合だけは６曲のうち４曲が別々の曲としてアレンジされて出版されている。

個人的には、「クオレマ」の劇自体のストーリーがとても難解なので、楽曲としてセットにしても通りが悪いとシベリウスが考えたんじゃないかなという気がしているけれど、真相は如何に。

合唱付きの巨大な編成のオーケストラを要求するラヴェルのスコアに、ディアギレフは不満だったと伝えられ、また初演準備で様々なトラブルに見舞われたため、初演の出来はラヴェルにとっては不満が残るものになったらしい。

振付を手掛けたのはフォーキンだが、第三者によるラフなスケッチしか残っておらず、初演寺の振付を再現するのは困難とされている。
