Here’s a thing I’ve not noticed before.

I was checking journey time to get to my rehearsal tonight, using Apple Maps. I typed Snape, and tapped on the top completion offering which was for Snape Maltings.

It is described (by Apple Maps, I guess?) as ‘Shopping Centre’.

Disappointed but not surprised.

#classicalmusic isn’t dead, yet. But it is increasingly irrelevant to society.

小澤征爾指揮の新日フィルで、全曲ロストロポーヴィチが弾くというプログラムを聴きに行ったことがある。ルトスワフスキの協奏曲とリヒャルト・シュトラウスの「ドン・キホーテ」ともう１曲（調べたらヴィヴァルディだったらしい：1990年の定演）。でも、一番印象に残ってるのはアンコールに弾いたバッハの無伴奏チェロ組曲の２番のプレリュード。最初の音が出た瞬間に客席の空気がピーンと張り詰めるのがわかった。ああいうのは後にも先にもあれだけ。

今日はピエール・ブーレーズの誕生日でもある。1925年生まれ。そうか、ベートーヴェンの命日と一緒だったんだ。去年が生誕100年。

「プリ・スロン・プリ」や「レポン」などのいわゆる現代音楽の作曲家ではあるけれど、晩年はむしろ指揮者としての活動の方が前面に立っていたと言うべきかな。兎に角驚異的な耳の持ち主だったらしく、音響設計家の豊田泰久曰く「他の奏者が聞こえていない音がブーレーズには聞こえている」ということがあったらしい（「コンサートホール✕オーケストラ」）。
