boostedMy Sunday challenge: installing #Devuan in place of #OpenBSD on my laptop so I can install #postmarketOS on an old tablet, because for some reason I only have a blue USB port on that laptop (my SFF PC has a whole bunch of USB ports, but none are blue). Let's see how well restoring the backup will work once I reinstall OpenBSD.
I wonder how many years worth of work would it take to create a #NetBSD / #smolBSD based mobile distro after #postmarketOS has done more progress...

Finishing internal #wiki notes on connecting across #Tailscale to boot a remote #Dell server via #iDRAC from a #proxmox iso image (on my #NetBSD laptop in a #Firefox window). Wipe, install, then install #pfSense and flip the Proxmox to be secured behind pfSense, and add a #Ruckus smartzone controller and some other VMs
All without physical access to the machine. Takes me way back to remote #Sun #Sparc installs via a #RS232 #Spiderport :-p

@stefano in on the Fediverse.
There are a few others on #FreeBSD #BSD #OpenBSD #NetBSD who will be willing to help.
Sadly, the non-systemd distros are getting fewer and fiddlier.
The no-ai operating systems are incredibly few. The only one I know of off the top of my head is #NetBSD.
All of the other ones are slop-friendly or slop-neutral.
It's sad that #Fedora doesn't seem to have the will or perhaps even understanding to take a principled stance on this. I can't say I expected a lot better of them, but one can freaking hope.
Various #FOSS OS communities' reactions to joining them:
#Linux: "Hey, welcome to the fam! Here's a stack of CDs I burned, see which one boots for you."
#FreeBSD: "Hey, we're glad you're here! Here's an amazing handbook to get you started, holler if you need a hand!"
#NetBSD: "Of course it runs NetBSD! Welcome! :D"
#OpenBSD: "Don't expect a lot of hand-holding, but we're all having fun with it, and hopefully you will enjoy the process, too."
#9front: "Are... you... sure you want to do this?"
๐
(For the record, I love them all. I only regret I haven't had much of a chance to play with #Haiku, or interact with that community, yet!)
The Wii homeserver is now live!
(IPv6 only, so if your ISP is stuck in the 1900s it'll have to wait until I get around to setting up some proxy or such.)
Edit: also proxied through IPv4 now
boosted@wordshaper @mhoye I feel vindicated for having stayed with #NetBSD for the last 15+ years.

Also do drop a screenshot of your uptime, uname -a, or a pic of the weirdest hardware you've got running NetBSD right now. (RockPro64 NPF routers or Pi's hooked up to retro CRTs highly encouraged).
