schmonz.com is a Fediverse instance that uses the ActivityPub protocol. In other words, users at this host can communicate with people that use software like Mastodon, Pleroma, Friendica, etc. all around the world.
This server runs the snac software and there is no automatic sign-up process.
My educated guess is that the wakeup code resets the current active KVT to the first one, and this is done in order to effect an explicit KVT switch that gets everything refreshed.
If someone actually looks at the innards of #NetBSD and finds out the real reason, it will be interesting to know how close my guess came. (-:
on resume from sleep, I have to manually change virtual terminals back to the x11 session. why
Reading about the changes in #NetBSD 11.0, in particular npf and kernel changes to improve SMP, really very interesting.
I have to say the idea of using BPF for firewall rules appeals to my inner tcpdump maniac.
Oh, un live #twitch sauvage ! On continue la compilation de noyau #NetBSD custom, c'est tout de suite sur https://www.twitch.tv/ahp_nils
I think I'm a NetBSD person now.
Linux has seriously overshot on complexity, that happened a while ago. Computers in general have way overshot on complexity, but if you want to still use them you need an OS that can work the machinery. NetBSD hits a sweet spot. This is mostly subjective, and my knowledge of OSs is not comprehensive, so do not put a lot of weight on these statements.
Wait... HP9000 used to be m68k?!? 🤯
P.S., there's videos of #NetBSD booting on fairly old m68k macs, but I dont know how old the videos themselves are, or if they got X11 running.
boostedMission accomplished, it seems!
I must have messed something up during `sysupgrade` and `etcupdate` because my user was no longer in the `wheel` group, but luckily it wasn't a big deal (thanks usermod)
Then I updated pkgsrc with `cvs update -dP` and edited `/usr/pkg/etc/pkgin/repositories.conf` to change the release number.
I hope that’s correct!
The update of all packages was successful, so I’m assuming it is.
Is it normal that `pkgin upgrade` re-download and reinstall all packages, even those that are already the same version?
I'd say the overall experience has been very positive.
P.S. `i3status` gives me an error if I use UTF-8 "icons" (it worked with 10.1), but it's not really a big deal.

I am still totally floored by the fact that this 2 cpu, 2GB netbook feels perfectly usable under #NetBSD 11.
Despite my love for #Slackware I will be the first to acknowledge that Linux (in general) is now so completely bloated that good little machines are not usable with it anymore.
Kudos to everyone who made this a great release! You guys made my day!
(Also: isn't it weird that NetSurf is able to render netbsd.org and openbsd.org flawlessly?) 😉
And we are live from #NetBSD 11 Ladies and Gentlemen!
A little 'pkgin -V -4 upgrade' and everything is working perfectly.
I have somewhat improved my little tmux script, and I can now take the dog out for her late evening walk before retiring to bed... Good night everyone!
NetBSD 11.0 released
NetBSD, the operating system specifically designed to run on anything from a supercomputer to a toothpick, just released version 11.0. There's a ton of changes and improvements here, such as a brand new port to RISC-V, which supports a number of the more popular RISC-V SoCs (sadly, not the one I have just yet). NetBSD 11.0 also adds initial support for the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite platform, a
Now the question is, should I upgrade my #netbsd home backup server now, or wait a bit just in case ...
"All the open pullup requests will be committed to the stable branch shortly after the 11.0 release, and become part of the upcoming 11.1 release. We are currently aiming to release 11.1 within the next two months."

Whaaaaaat?!?
Man, this is not your daddy's #NetBSD ... 😜
That will give a good excuse to test sysupdate though, so I am not complaining.
Sweet computer happiness: downloading #NetBSD 11 from 11.0_RC7 to update the netbook.
Sorry for the potato picture.
Finally #NetBSD 11 is here!
It's official, it's on the front page:
(Now, where did I put that little USB key?)
