Revisionist History Blues

Two, three, four—

The world ain't how it used to be
When I was watching it on a TV screen
When I went to school they taught to me
A revisionist version of history
Where MLK was never shot by the FBI
And every war we've ever been in was justified
Where the judges and the juries are colorblind
And our worst days are long left behind

But that is not the world I see
When I look at what's right in front of me
The cops keep killing, and we all watch
They get two weeks of paid time off
We all still watch the genocide
And look away when we get tired
We still salute the war machine
Until the soldiers come back and need somewhere to sleep

Oh yeah…
This ain't the world you promised me
It's nothing like you said it'd be
We live to work
Until we work to death
For a CEO we've never met

They said everyone trusts the government
'Cause criminals can't be president
And politicians only represent
The people who elected them
But that is not the world I see
When I look at what's right in front of me
The poor stay poor and then drop dead
The rich get richer off their blood and sweat
Everyone gets an atom bomb
The people cheer and clap along
As the show begins, the fever starts
It's our own nuclear holocaust

I sell my life for pennies flat
For someone else, I break my tired back
If I'm leaving—you're coming too
Before I go down… I'm getting you

Everybody!
When we go down
When we go down—that's right!
We go down together
When we go down—yeah!
When we go down—that's right!
We go down together

Together—alright!
We go down—hey, hey!
We go down together

Oh yeah!

          Yo chooms!

Bandcamp Friday is here again - the one day where the whole cut goes straight to the artist instead of getting eaten up along the way.

So I figured I'd make it worth your while: use the code "cyber" at checkout and everything digital in my shop is 90% off. Grab one track, pull the entire catalogue onto your cyberdeck, whatever you feel like. It's all yours to keep, DRM-free, offline, forever.

          :bandcamp: revengeday.bandcamp.com/

This one lands at a good moment for me, too. I've got a surgery coming up that I'm partly covering myself. Nothing dramatic - but knowing there are people out there still listening makes it a whole lot easier. Whatever you load up today is part of that.

          Thank you :cyberheart_green:

Another of my personal favorites, which I had in the Monteverdi , is Monteverdi's

from the quite magical Book of Madrigals VIII.

I had a different version in the playlist in combination with another Madrigal, but as a standalone, this rendition is my favorite on Youtube

                                      youtu.be/rekbD8az0r0

I think it ranges among my favorite works of all time, especially from the Renaissance and Baroque.

In my first ever , I had something absolutely mind-boggling.

Bach's famous Chaconne from the second violin sonata is a monument all by itself.

Now, listen to this rendition on a traditional Koto by Maya Kimura.

I think she changes the configuration of the instrument regularly while playing to obtain certain pitches, and there seems to be some micro-tonality going on.

00:23 - 00:30 - bouzouki or maybe a mandola or octave mandolin? it clearly has doubled strings but i'm bad at identifying plucked stringed instruments
                                              00:30 - 00:54 is the fiddle again

I finally made maolan.rs on Windows work at least on my machine, so new version is published. That version also removed my hackish way of handling real time with proper lockless structures, and I added Live Session view looking similar to Ableton Live. There's still a lot of work to be done but and production using has never been more fun.

In the future I intend to work on plugins to make DAW more complete. Maolan already supports CLAP, LV2 and VST3, so you can load plugins, but I want to develop some of my own.
