I replaced the sad old machine that was running schmonz.com with a happy new one. Noticeable improvements:

  • Pentium II 333MHz -> VIA C3 1GHz
  • 96MB -> 512MB
  • 4GB -> 160GB (mirrored)
  • NetBSD 1.6.2 -> 2.0_BETA
  • qmail -> netqmail

I thought I did well to arrange for it to have the same IP as the old machine, and therefore no DNS changes needed, but I was wrong. The new machine is offline from networks that are “far away”. I think the cause is a stale arp cache entry on upstream routers and/or switches. I tried advertising the old MAC from the new machine to no avail. I think we'll just have to wait it out.
