Lots of internal bits and pieces today. I documented some of the home.ooi.net
maintenance procedures for my fellow Unix admins here. Worked on learning more database stuff. I have a number of projects on hold, waiting for me to design and implement databases: a mailing list, a broken link reporter, user-tailored logfile analysis, a personal contact list program, etc. Between these dormant projects and the exigencies of being a Web programmer, it is high time that I get a clue about databases. Bill lent me a recommended book of his: Object-Oriented Concepts, Databases, and Applications by Kim and Lochovsky. You can be sure that I will report on my progress.
I set up a partial mirror of OpenBSD 2.5 at ftp://openbsd.ooi.net/. It has the full i386, mac68k, and sparc distributions. Please buy a CD if you like the software and want to support the project.
I was chatting on AOL Instant Messenger with my friend Peter Kupfer, and he incited a pseudo-conversation filled with geographical puns. I would post it here for you to read, but this is a family-oriented Web site. Here are a few relatively tame examples: “I wouldn't Malaysia Zsa Gabor unless she gave me a lot of money.” “The odds are pretty high that Shaq, after missing a free throw, will Michigan. Boise a bad foul shooter!” “Man, this woman just walked by and her Nepals were tight.” You can't take it any more, can you?
