Sallied forth to BGSU with Justin. Our goal was to allow art students to access their files on a network server from both the NT machines (SGI Visual Workstations) and the IRIX machines (SGI O2's) with a single login and password. The network server is an SGI Origin 200 running IRIX with NIS and Samba. Justin changed the machine's configuration from NIS slave to NIS master and moved all the home directories over. I spent the day whacking away at Samba, finally getting it to provide basic Windows NT domain services: authentication, logon scripts, and networked home directories. It's a pretty neat setup. Their kids will love it!
Stu joined us to assist with upgrading RAM and processors in the O2 lab, cloning hard disks for the Visual Workstation lab, and bringing us Whoppers for dinner. Thanks Stu!
Justin and I bantered on the late-night car ride home, trying to keep each other awake for the duration. We made it. Long day, but it sure feels good at the end.
