There is nothing quite like a gorgeous day in the middle of November. So I went to Ultimate practice. Trouble with feet and shins. I have got to do myself a favor and have the feet and ankles checked out. Before I get old and rickety, that is.
Went to dinner at Aladdin's with Frank, Vic, Gabe, and Gabe's friend Adam from home (Madison, WI). Adam is visiting Gabe for a while during his (Adam's) semester off from school. I had a lot of food: chicken lentil soup, chicken salad, a smoothie of milk, banana, and chocolate, and baklava. All good. On our way out we saw Andy Cross, a Phi Kap who is currently “co-op”-ing in Maryland but is in town for the weekend. A pleasant surprise. Then I had egg nog ice cream from Baskin Robbins.
Frank, Roth, Russ, Rima, Ilana, and I went to a faraway Cinemark to see Dogma. In another car went some more CWRU Ultimate players. Our car missed some significant exits and arrived a bit late, by which time the members of the other car had been admitted and the movie had sold out. So we watched The Insider, a movie I might otherwise not have gotten around to seeing. It was a very good story, very well told, filmed in a style that is itself fascinating. However, it was not a “forget you are in a theater sitting in your seat watching a screen” movie. I shifted position several times and was fully aware of my surroundings, meaning that the movie did not blow me away (as did the previous two movies I've watched, Three Kings and American Beauty). The pace is a bit slow, but it is a well crafted film well worth seeing. Recommended.
We went to the 24-hour Chuck's Diner on Lee Road near Cedar. Chuck's requires advance payment between the hours of 12AM and 5AM, including gratuity. I am sure they had just cause to implement this policy, but there is no incentive for waiters to provide excellent service because customers give the tip in advance. Suck.
