I wrote a small PHP program to authenticate a user, then translate an uploaded Word document to HTML. This will eventually be a very nifty workflow application for the CWRU Triumph.
Case Western Reserve University apparently has a Macintosh user group. Back in the day, Macs ruled the computing roost at CWRU; nowadays, we Mac adherents are a dwindling dynasty, simultaneously ridiculed and admired by the present preponderantly PC-packing population. I mention the Mac because Apple Computer came to campus to demonstrate Mac OS 9. Naturally, I went to see what I could see. There was a raffle for Apple t-shirts, so I got a t-shirt (I always win raffles). It says “go go go” on the front and “Think Different” (below a picture of a tangerine iBook) in the back. Cute. Free!
Apple is once again a profitable company. This means they can afford to pay closer personal attention to the education market. One of the guys who gave the demo is an Apple sales rep for northeast Ohio; the other is the CWRU contact person. It's great to have people in the area whose job is to represent Apple and field questions. I am excited that things are going so well for my favorite computer company.
