Enjoyed lunch with David J. at the downtown Best Steak & Gyros. Their steak is definitely the best, but it is unclear whether the adjective applies also to the gyros. I recommend that they officially change their name to Best (Steak & Gyros) for clarity.

I had a lot on my mind and appreciated the opportunity to bounce ideas off David. He is a good listener and generally gives sound advice. Small wonder he's an excellent consultant, husband, and father.

Dave Carlin gave me a Sun monitor cable and a stand for my Sparc IPC. These will help me get the Sparc running and useful.

The CWRU Ultimate team celebrated a strong semester at the College Scholars House at the top of the hill on the south side of campus. We all brought Secret Santa gifts. The one guy on the list I didn't know is the guy I got assigned, so I got him a gift suitable for anyone: a book about how to use duct tape effectively. The person assigned to me was Ian Charnas, who inventively glued a frisbee disc to the top of a Dell 486-based PC, so that I could “play Ultimate and check my email at the same time”. I plan to use this PC (my first!) on my home network in some capacity. Naturally, it needs only an Ethernet card and OpenBSD to be useful to me.

The Phi Kap Christmas party followed immediately. A similar Secret Santa process ensued. I got a set of small interlocking plastic pieces called “Zoob Dude” and a fantastic Browns “Dawg Pound” hat. I had to step over a friendship to get the hat, but it was worth it. I have a dizzying array of weird hats, and felt compelled to add one with fake dog ears. I think my ex-friend will forgive me in due time.
