Adam Grauer did Henry one better: got in his car and drove downtown to meet me for lunch. We went to the Italian Villa, a tiny little place on Prospect with a great lunch value: two pieces of pizza, a salad, and a beverage for $3.60 (50 cents more for some cheese on the salad). The Villa is a perennial favorite of David J., who did not join us today because he was busy configuring OpenBSD on his laptop. (Sing along with me now: ”Dum diddly dee, Open Bee Ess Dee”.)

Grauer and I, both enterprising idealists, frequently find ourselves speaking of how things ought to be. And so it was at lunch. I never tire of it. There are always more things in the world that need fixing.

When I entered college two years ago, I had expected an improvement from high school: better teachers, smarter peers, and more interesting things to learn about. In all areas, I was badly disappointed. Two years later, I've finally found a critical mass of people at CWRU I like and respect. Guys like Grauer and Nathan Arthur, who determine what is important to them and proceed to get it; guys like Gabe and Frank, who can make a good time out of whatever is at hand; guys like Ian and Henry, who maintain their own indelible style while trying their hand at just about anything. These are the people I expected to find in college. I am glad, however belatedly, that I have found them.
