Hit hard by the flu. Slept for most of last night and today. When awake, bothered by a headache, a left-side backache, and a general malaise. No interest in food. When I'm sick like this, I dislike water because it acquires the taste already in my throat, and therefore prefer sweetened carbonated beverages (yes, even though I usually dislike them!). Grauer, also sick but apparently not as malaisious, ventured out to procure me 2 life-giving liters of Diet Pepsi. This helped my spirits sufficiently that I spent the evening working on home.ooi.net. I deeply enjoy this project because it is entirely mine — nobody else performs any server administration — and because I get to work with the complete range of tools, from the operating system (OpenBSD) to the Web server and modules (Apache, and lots), to programming (Perl and PHP), to site design and implementation (HTML). I can safely say that I know how to implement all of the technologies needed to create a dynamic Web site. From the top down, from the bottom up, the completion of this project is in my hands and relies on my brain. I feel like a pitcher in the seventh inning, still in control, knowing he'll get the complete game.
