Completing the long, somnambular circle that began late Thursday night, Gabe and I walked from the Cleveland Greyhound station at 4:30 AM to Best Steak & Gyros — even though it was not only Expensive Hours but also, in Gabe's words, “the godless hour”, when even the Almighty Creator is asleep — because we were hungry. Gabe suspects the new high prices are part of BS&G's efforts to reduce sales. I can think of no better reason. If they really want to succeed in this, they'll need to find a less convenient location in which to prepare less tasty food. I wish them luck, sort of.

Gabe and I then waited outside in the cold wee morning hours for a municipal bus to take us home at last. In my tenure at OhioOnline, I waited for my share of buses: early morning, late morning, afternoon, evening, late evening, night. Since the bus stop is several blocks from home, I also did my fair share of walking to and fro. The walk is not so bad, even in the cold, because you know how long it will be before you're done, and you keep warm by the walking. Waiting for a bus is torture: it comes whenever it gets there, and all you can do is stand, wait, and try to avoid being there long enough to get classified as a rare cold-blooded mammal.

Guess what I did when I got home? Actually, I did sleep a lot. Better luck next time.

Once upon a time, each email message I sent carried a choice zinger, with attribution, randomly selected and appended. Then, changes to the Mac operating system caused my trick to fail. Now the random quotes are back, appearing on every page of schmonz.com. Submissions gratefully accepted.
