Worked at the Children's Museum in the morning. It was nice to see everyone there again and meet Kacy's friend Christy, a CWRU student who works at the museum.
Grabbed some Burger King goodness at Tomlinson, but it was too full to sit there, so I walked to Thwing. Turns out it was Letter Day, and lots of brothers were there. I ate with them. At lunchtime, for various reasons, this is rare.
Naturally, on my way back, I stopped at Hillel to spew some brains onto the piano. My first two improvisations were no good; the third, excellent. The difference was in my approach: start with a very simple melody, include harmony in the conceptual motif, then add complexity (as measured in rhythmic and melodic variation) and let the brain run its course. This works really well, as opposed to my prior theory that a good melody is sufficient for a good improvisation. I think this is because variations on harmony are more difficult to improvise than on melody and rhythm.
Rowan wants to learn Unix and has a spare Mac IIci. So I partitioned his hard drive, installed System 7.0.1 with the Tune-Up, threw on a bunch of miscellaneous utilities, and formatted the BSD root partition. Need an Ethernet card to help complete the installation.
I played well at Ultimate practice. Too bad I'm ineligible to play in our home tourney on Saturday (since I'm not taking any classes). Maybe I'll coach.
Watched Sliding Doors for the multipleth time. I don't care much for the movie, but I admire the comportment and conduct of James, a gentle, decent, and charming man. He is worth rewatching.
