Restored the Web sites from backup and merged the server configuration. schmonz.com, davidj.org, and dkkidz.com are all back online! NetBSD is lovely. I starting learning Unix two years ago with NetBSD on an old Mac, and while many parts of the system have changed, the essential familiarity is comfortable.

Itching to do some work on the site now that it's back up, I did some major shuffling. The funky menu has moved from the left to the right. The space on the left side of a Web page is strategically important, and I wanted important text to go there. To my eye, it looks better now, with the flavored funk off to the right and the significant stuff on the left.

Before dinner, volleyball. My arm still hurts when raised, and the sand is cold. But hot gracious diggity, it's volleyball season again!

G-Nate and I zanged to BS&G to play Crazy Taxi. What what what? It's gone! The woman at the counter laughed and said it must have been a mistake, that “they” must have removed the wrong machine. Pfffft. I sure hope so. Between talking about women, we played pool. Before playing, both of us claimed to be decent but not good. Apparently we measure our skills against differing classes of opponent, for I played rather better than Nathan. But he talked more coherently. Perhaps there is a fixed sum of billiards-playing and women-conversing-about skill allotted to each man, to be dispensed with as he sees fit, and I used most of mine on billiards.

We stopped by Hillel on the way back and someone opened the door for us. As usual, I started with a tune. Then I kind of forgot about it. But the improvisation stood out in that when the development reached its climax, my playing sustained its clarity — no missed notes or uncertain pauses — and reached a compelling conclusion. Sheira stopped in and related her experience at the Matzah Ball. Then I played again, something short and melodic inspired by Schubert, and Nathan and I drove around and chatted about girls again. We sure can banter.
