Big heavy hard rain this morning soaked me right through. I took off my shoes and socks at the office and let them evaporate all morning. I don't believe in umbrellas any more than I believe in bug spray. Every umbrella I've ever owned has been turned inside out and rendered structurally weak. Besides, they're cumbersome to carry, and getting wet can be refreshing. There are worse fates than getting rained on. I'm not likely to melt like a Wicked Witch.
In contrast to yesterday, I completed a fair amount of work even before lunchtime. Mike showed me how to configure the IP range for a school so that someone browsing from that school's network will automatically be given that school's Jolt. I almost got a test Apache server running with PHP3 and PHP4 modules, and in the interim installed the BSD vi on the servers (I use vi very heavily, and Linux's vim irks me no end). And helped Brendan get a basic PHP file upload script working.
Geeks eat pizza. It's a rule. We went to Rico's near Downtown Crossing — by which time I was almost dry! — and had a nummy sausage and mushroom concoction. Pedro persuasively sold us on the merits of his Palm device. I'll get one when I have some spare change. Maybe a car, too.
I set up Rami's home computer to display Ha'aretz in Hebrew, and wrote instructions for Aya to browse and read articles. This is something they'd wanted to be able to do for a long time. I followed a couple links, downloaded and ran the font installer, and it just worked. And this was on Windows 95! Nifty.
