During the course of the day, the NE2000 network card drops random packets. My problem is not just SSH anymore: I can't FTP reliably either. This is ridiculous. I ordered a NetGear 10/100 PCI Ethernet card. I suspect the problem may be related to differing MTU sizes. At any rate, NE2000 cards are known to suck, and a decent 100Mbps PCI card removes some variables.
Got NetBSD fairly pimped out with KDE and whatnot. And then I installed regular old SSH from pkgsrc on a whim — and it worked.
What is going on?
Why can't everything that should work, just work? Why can't I just work?
James helped me feel a little better by helping me cu my way to a nice little serial console from the IIci to the Quadra. This means I don't need a monitor on it. Neat! We couldn't, unfortunately, get the printer working yet.
