Windows NT it is. Trying to download patches and updates proved difficult, thanks to the very network glitches probably responsible for the failure of SSH under Unix. With David's help, I managed to download a badly needed NT Service Pack which allowed me to install the video drivers for the Matrox Millennium II card, which made the video display an order of magnitude (yeah, I measured it precisely) better. Then, I installed the Yamaha sound card drivers from Dell. Audio! Now I need headphones. Got Internet Explorer 5. Got QuickTime. Got Winamp. Looking good and getting usable. Too bad, as Mike said, it ain't Unix. But I can work now.
My Love Monkey work is progressing: the session is created, updated, and removed correctly. Now I just have to make sure the session is passed in the URL of every hyperlink in every page. Not difficult, but tedious, and therefore harder for me to do.
After work, Kendra and I had dinner at Durgin Park. The place had been recommended to me by Justin Alcorn of OhioOnline, who was born in Brookline. I had a steak, as he suggested, and enjoyed it immensely, as he assured me I would. I'd hoped to go to the new Fenway General Cinema afterward and see a cheap movie (they had a deal going), but we hadn't left ourselves enough time for that. So we just sat out in the middle of the old Scollay Square and allowed the lovely perfect warm summer evening to go by. Good food, good company, good evening. Good night!
