qmail has been placed in the public domain, and DJB has stated that the rest of his software will follow suit. As the maintainer of djbware in pkgsrc, and in particular as one who worked hard to package qmail well, this is exciting news. It's too early to guess what all the ramifications might be. One is that this NetBSD April Fool's commit is suddenly a lot less implausible.
