David J. called, wondering why his site was down. As it's hosted on the same Web server responsible for schmonz.com, I'd already noticed the problem, and had chalked it up to CWRUnet troubles. When I happened to walk past the back of my computer pile on the way out of the room, I saw that the Ethernet transceiver had fallen off the back of my firewall, leaving me no physical connection to a perfectly normal CWRUnet. Whoops! I'm still ironing out the kinks in my Web hosting service.

A message I sent to the CWRULUG mailing list Thursday has apparently offended a lot of people. I say “apparently” because nobody has responded to my message, and a fellow CWRULUG member told me that lots of folks took offense and unsubscribed from the list. (Oh, and the mailing list is now moderated.) Well, phooey: I was not trying to offend anyone. If I were, the message would have been a lot more offensive!

Tweaked the schmonz.com colors and frobbed the contact form. It's great to be able to quickly make small modifications to the whole site, thanks to a PHP-programmable template.

Went to the Barking Spider with Frank, Tony, Pat, Grauer, and his friend Alison. It's still good to be 21. I played the standard USA-versus-USSR foosball-like hockey game against Frank and then Tony. Nifty game. No wonder it's still around.

Mama's Boy was closed, earlier than its posted hours indicate. This supports my obvious theory that if you have closing hours, you can move them; if you don't, you can't. Based on this carefully considered theory, I prefer places that are always open. We went a long way down Euclid to get to the Sidewalk Cafe, a Frank favorite. Yummy. Wish it were more proximate.

After much thought, Henry has decided to become an associate member of my fraternity. I am very happy about this because I think he will gain a lot by it, and also because any group of which he is a member is a better group.
