Swell Ultimate on this lovely day! Again, I found myself making lots of D's. Frank even commented on my moving well. I'm looking forward to the spring break tournament in Georgia.

Dinner with Sheira at the Boarding House restaurant. I was going to try to squeeze her in and still make it to the “Mr. CWRU” competition (I've never seen it), but that suddenly became unimportant once we sat and began catching up. She's in her first year of medical school, studying her buns off at nearly all hours, and it's rare that we have time to see each other, even as we live only a short walk away.

Walking home, I passed Norton House. In the fresh darkness I saw myself two years ago, leaning on the railing of the Norton third-floor balcony in oblique sunlight waning to a muted purple, alone with and inches from a girl I'd become dim for. I knew it then as I know it now: it was then that I should have whispered in her mouth what she meant to me. Should have.

When I want to remind myself how it feels to miss a great chance, I walk to Norton on a quiet night. The feeling is not emptiness; in emptiness there is nothing to feel. It is not sadness; in sadness there is nothing to learn. The feeling is inward indignation at having closed and walked away from a door that had been tantalizingly ajar.

There is no greater pain than that of an injury inflicted upon oneself.

I went to the post-Mr. CWRU party at the Sigma Psi house and learned an important lesson: don't drink whiskey right out of the bottle. Before the adverse effects kicked in, I met Rachel again (who this time put my face to my name) and talked about biomedical engineering and swimming (she offered a lesson!) and more. And I hung a bit with Christy (who commandeered my new fisherman's hat) and Erina (a friend of my historical Storrs roommate Gabe) and Marisha (who I'd never met, but had been at our Whirlyball rush event).
