I rustled up several leads for departments at Case in need of system administration services. I'm meeting with Pharmacology and Biology on Tuesday to try to sell them on my group's offering. Also — and not a moment too soon — I found my way to the guy who just audited the entire Case School of Engineering (who are also largely without sysadmins) for IT problems and will soon be recommending solutions. If at all possible, I'd like to persuade him to recommend us!

When I think about what'll happen next if I succeed at these sales, I realize I'm not a full-time nerd anymore:

  1. Fish for resumes.
  2. Call decent applicants to determine who's worth bringing in.
  3. Conjure effective, revealing interview questions.
  4. Conduct interviews.
  5. Select winners. Hire as many as we need, unless we don't have enough winners, in which case: return to Step 1.
  6. Introduce them to their clients.
  7. Manage them.

I keep being pleasantly surprised that this kind of work is tremendously interesting. I'm having way the hell too much fun!
